Obituary of A. Patricia Sweeney

Patricia Sweeney passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Longmeadow, MA., after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Agnes (Owens) McCaffrey, who were originally from Fermanagh Ireland. Mrs. Sweeney was a graduate of The Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary in the Bronx and Our Lady of Good Counsel College. She received a masters degree from Columbia Teacher's College. Mrs. Sweeney taught kindergarten for thirty-five years. Her first five years were spent in NYC public schools. She taught for thirty years in New Rochelle at Washington and Columbus Schools. Mrs. Sweeney was a member of Sts John and Paul Parish in Larchmont where she lived most of her life. She belonged to the Sts John and Paul Women's Guild, The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Interfaith Council and The Larchmont Women's Club. She also loved to play bridge. Mrs. Sweeney was predeceased by her husband James E. Sweeney, her two brothers Frank and John McCaffrey, and her Godmother Katherine Keenan as well as Katherine's husband Christopher and their children Charles and Kathleen. Mrs. Sweeney is survived by her four children, Kathleen Collins and her husband David of Longmeadow MA, James E. Sweeney and his wife Susan Girardi of Larchmont, Susan Butler and her husband Robert of Wethersfield CT, and John F. Sweeney and his wife Carolyn of Pleasantville, NY. She has nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Sweeney is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Virginia McCaffrey of Creskhill NJ and Sally Yanulis of Annapolis MD and seven nieces and nephews.
