Obituary of Anthony J. Schmerge

Anthony Joseph Schmerge passed away peacefully at his home in New Rochelle on June 23, 2019. Tony was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 8, 1955 to Rita and Albert Schmerge.  The family moved to Mamaroneck in 1960.  Tony attended St. Augustine’s and Mamaroneck Public Schools where he formed many lifelong friendships.  Tony was the proud father of Lauren (Craig) Reynolds and Olivia, and the beloved grandfather of Carter (22 months) and soon to be granddaughter, Isla Rose. He is survived by siblings Martha Zerega (Guy), Albert (Judi), Peter, Frances Rinder (Jerald), Stephen (Elizabeth), Mary Archer (Jack), Paula Dwyer (Michael), Joseph (Laura), Ann Noonan (Thomas), and Rita. He was predeceased by his sister Susan Pawloff and his parents, Rita and Albert Schmerge. In addition, Tony is survived by 33 nieces and nephews, 43 great nieces and nephews, and one great-great niece. 

Tony was a big man, with a gentle soul.  He loved storytelling, fishing, music, sports, and was an amazing chef. His fabulous food was always enjoyed by all at family and friends’ events. He was truly a jack of all trades being so extremely talented in so many areas.  His family and friends will miss his deep belly laugh and his many heart to heart conversations.  He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visiting hours will be Thursday 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, NY 10538. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday at 11:00am at St. Augustine’s Church, Larchmont Avenue, Larchmont, NY.
