Obituary of Amy Beth Liebesman

Amy Liebesman of Larchmont, NY died peacefully at home on April 25, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones after a valiant thirteen year fight with breast cancer. She was 58 years old.

Amy picked up friends wherever she went – walking the dog, riding the train to work, dropping her kids off at daycare, going to the deli. She is the best friend of so many people, because she was simply that: the best friend. Compassionate, kind, funny, smart, a great listener. She shared our worries, and celebrated our triumphs. She wanted all good things for everyone. She knew all of our flaws and loved us anyway.

Amy was born April 20, 1965 to Sandy (Sandra) and Sandy (Sanford) Liebesman of Morristown, New Jersey.  After graduating from Holmdel High School, she studied marketing at Penn State, and later received a masters in sociology at NYU. Amy went on to build a successful career as a strategist in Advertising and PR.  She was fortunate to be part of Deutsch Advertising in its earlier days when she worked among a gang of “originals” where her goodness and ideas made a real contribution not just to the business of Deutsch, but to the culture that made it a wonderful place to work for so many people.  After graduating from Deutsch,  Amy worked at a number of different agencies where she built solid relationships and a reputation as an expert strategist and storyteller.  For the past seven years Amy worked at Edelman PR, where she brought her expertise in strategy to public relations.

Amy loved to run.  She ran two half marathons, one of which was after her diagnosis.  Amy was a fierce supporter of social justice, doing her part to combat voter suppression and support women’s rights, embarking on letter-writing campaigns, phone banking and attending marches in DC.  And chemo didn’t stop Amy from canvassing for candidates door-to-door in New York and New Jersey.

Amy is survived by her devoted husband David Abramson, son Simon Abramson, daughter Jillian Abramson, sister and real bestie Jodi Fox (Stu), brother Gary Liebesman (Stacy), father Sandy Liebesman (Elinor), and needy dog Paisley. She is predeceased by her mother Sandy Liebesman. She will remain the brightest light in their lives as she now lives in their hearts.
